Muslin cotton wipes
In a nutshell, all cotton is airy, hygroscopic, anti-allergenic and natural, but....
Organic cotton, like regular industrial cotton, is a plant-based raw material, but the way they are grown and the differences in their processing make them really different.
Organic cotton comes from crops that are not treated with toxic chemicals. Organic fertilisers are used instead of chemical ones and chemical pesticides. The plant is not protected by chemicals, so it has to develop its own defence mechanisms, which makes it a sustainable raw material and ensures that the products made from it retain their shape and appearance for a long time.
No chemicals are used to produce a cotton fabric, as is the case with some other naturally sourced materials. The white cotton balls are picked from the cotton plants, cleaned of their leaves and seeds by hand or mechanically, and then combed, pressed and twisted. This is how the yarn is created, which is then knitted or woven into airy cotton fabrics.
It is worth remembering that organic cotton is highly hygroscopic - it will absorb 24 to 27 times its weight in water! And interestingly, wet organic cotton is very durable, so frequent and harsh washing will not harm it.
GOTS-certified organic cotton is pure, chemical-free, healthy and safe for the youngest children, perfect for sensitive skin and ideal for allergy sufferers prone to atopic dermatitis.
On organic cotton plantations, controls are applied to respect workers' rights.
***
Due to its high content of natural oils, organic cotton nappies reach maximum absorbency later than normal industrial cotton, and may need up to 7-8 washes to reach full absorbency.
