Why wool?Wool is a hydrophobic fibre, it repels moisture, so naturally it can act as an insulating layer in menstrual pads. You will notice this quickly during use, they will be dry and clean even if the cotton pad happens to soak through in places.
Bacteria have no way of surviving in conditions where they have no opportunity to multiply. And wool has no conditions for bacterial growth. That’s why the pad base does not need to be washed after each use, just hung up for a few/several hours.
Wool is a very breathable material and has thermoregulatory properties - such pads will also be ideal in summer, on hot days.

Cotton pad inserts and boosters
The pad inserts and boosters are made of smooth and soft GOTS certified 100% cotton. They are attached to the wool pad base with nickel-free and stainless steel metal snaps. The insert pads have wings for attaching them to underwear (just like a disposable pad with wings).
They should be washed several times before first use to achieve the correct size by shrinking, only then will they fit the woollen pad base.Pad liner - 18 cm 3 layers of cotton fabric (to be used on a daily basis if needed, with menstrual cups). It is likely that you will not need a wool pad for it.
Mini - 18 cm 4 layers (beginning of period or end)
Regular - 23 cm 5 layers (for lighter to moderate bleeding)
Maxi - 23 cm 6 layers (for heavier bleeding, also overnight if bleeding is not heavy)
Large - 31 cm 6 layers (for overnight and postpartum use)
Booster - 18 cm 3 layers, without wings. Used to reinforce Regular, Maxi and Large size pad inserts as needed by clipping it into the wool pad base underneath the insert you want to reinforce.Woollen pad base
The pad base are made from two layers of 100% merino undyed and unbleached wool. The wool fabric I use to sew the pads is naturally rich in lanolin, so it will protect the underwear well from leaking. The new pad base are already treated with lanolin to further enhance the water repellent and self-cleaning properties of the wool. The pad base you receive will be slightly sticky from the lanolin, which is the effect of lanolin treatment and is completely normal. The stickiness will disappear after a few uses.

New cotton pad inserts are a few cm longer than wool pad bases, they will shrink to the correct length after a few washes. The higher the washing temperature and possibly tumble drying, the quicker they will fit the pad bases.
For your convenience, the wool pads you will receive are washed and treated with lanolin, which will enhance the insulating and self-cleaning properties of the wool. Therefore, you may see creases in the wool, they will be slightly sticky to the touch from the lanolin what will fade after few uses. You can use them immediately after purchase or if you prefer, you can gently hand wash them again.
